As our Disney World trip draws nearer I have begun putting together lists of what kinds of snacks I want to take with us. Snacks are one of the best parts of the trip in my opinion.
You can't just keep pulling over into gas stations or going through a drive-thru every time someone is hungry. Well, you could, but that's going to be expensive and time consuming if you're trying to get there before Christmas.
So I've put together a little list of things I like to pack when we road trip with our kids. Obviously adjust it to what your own children like and will eat.
Make your own lunchables
I've said this before in previous posts but I'm bringing them up again because they are so handy!
They don't leak into the compartments which is a huge plus if you're adding fruit to the mix.
In the past I've done:
- Mini pepperoni
- Cheese cubes
- Ritz Crackers
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Fruit snacks
- Scoopy Snack graham crackers
- Mini Marshmallows
- Gold Fish
- Mini Cookies
- Cutie Oranges
- Apples
Really you can add anything you want, I try to keep it somewhat healthy.
@kristinmichelleyt These are so handy for road trips or days out of the house! I even use them when we are just going to be at home so I don’t have to get a million different snacks! Whiskware Snack Stackerz are a Must
I love these little cups! I first bought some from Costco when Maggie was first starting to want snacks on the go.
They hold three different snacks which is great for variety, and we all know kids get bored with snacks easily. They're easy to put together, you can mix and match characters and they come in a variety of different characters and colors. So if Disney isn't your style, there are plenty more to choose from!
I usually put things in them that don't need refrigeration and are dry.
- Mini Marshmallows
- Gold Fish
- Mini Cookies
- Veggie Straws
- Gerber Cheetos
- Gerber Puffs
- Cheese Its
You could definitely do celery or carrots (my kids just aren't to the age where those are an on-the-go snack).
Now for the adults. I usually hit Costco and snag some bulk snacks for us. I don't transfer them into different containers, I just have a big bag of a variety of different foods.
- Cutie Oranges
- Slim Jims
- Beef Jerky
- Apples
- Trail Mix
- Small bags of chips
- Carrots with travel size peanut butter
- Celery with travel size peanut butter
- Pretzels
Probably not the most insanely healthy choices but they really just need to hold us over until we can find somewhere to eat lunch or dinner.
When it comes to drinks we try to stick to water. I fill up my Yeti (this time it will be a big 42oz!) with water or tea and I'll sip on that for most of the ride down. For the kids I have Owala toddler cups that we're going to put their water in. They don't leak and that's the kind of energy I need on a road trip! The last thing I want is to find spilled drink in someone's seat and discover a wet butt when we're going in to eat somewhere or stopping at a rest area.
We bring bottled tea, bottled water, and soda with us. My husband will usually pack some energy drinks as well. We put everything in a cooler that plugs into our car to keep it cool!
What are your favorite road trip snacks?
