Everything I'm Loving for My Cane Corso

I think we are finally at a point in dog "ownership" where we've found things that work well for our Gus Gus and I wanted to share them with you!

Food

Storage

When we first got Gus, our four month old Cane Corso, I immediately asked my sister for recommendations for a food bowl. She has had Great Danes for years and I know that giant breeds have different feeding needs than my little chihuahua and pug. She suggested I get an elevated food bowl. With limited space in our home I needed something that also stored the food. I found this one at Petco.

It holds a 50lb bag of food and keeps it fresh. It holds both water and food bowl. It doesn't take up a bunch of space at all. It's easy to clean, easy to fill, and is over all worth the money.

Supplements

I've never given supplements to a dog before but upon doing my research into the Cane Corso breed I discovered that they do have a tendency to develop hip and skin issues. If I can head that off at the pass I would like to! I took to TikTok to see what supplements others were giving their pups and ultimately ended up finding the below. Vet IQ

Salmon oil is so good for dogs. It takes about 1/4 of a teaspoon on their food. I drip it on and then shake it up in the bowl to get more coverage. The bottle lasts so long because you only need a little bit. It helps their skin and coat. Gus has a little dry skin on his booty area so it was necessary to find something that would help and it definitely has!

Treats

Gus is big on treats! He is very food motivated and we go through them fast! We haven't found anything he doesn't like quite yet, he has his favorites though and that's what I'll share with you here.

He loves these things so much! I break them in half and make him do a little trick for "two". I also take these outside with us and toss a whole one to let him "hunt" it down. It helps burn some energy and gives his brain something to do while there are also distractions around him outside.

Purina Busy Bone

Big dogs go through chews so fast! So I had to get him something that would keep him busy while I needed to be doing something he couldn't be at my feet for or when he was getting rowdy in the house and couldn't go outside. These are great! He will chew it for about 20-30 minutes and still not have it all gone. He also loves pig ears and those keep him busy for a while too!

Toys

Kong Tennis Balls he loves these things! They get out so much energy and I love that. So far they've held up really well too. He's more likely to lose them than to destroy them.

He also has a skunk toy from the local farm store and that thing has held up extremely well!

Gear

Tactical Harness. This fits him really well. I got an XL so I knew it was going to be something he could grow into. I absolutely hate to see people walking a dog on a leash and collar. It stresses me out and I know it hurts their throat. So I'm team harness all the way.
