I have to say, it's a lot less festive when you're not running from one relative's house to another. I wish my kids could experience the Christmases I had when I was growing up.
This year we started our Christmas off with a visit from my husband's grandmother and my step-son Tristen (22). When we first started dating we would spend Christmas at his grandmothers' house, she would make a big meal and all of her children would attend with their kids and spouses. As the kids grew and the families expanded, adding significant others and kids, it became too much for her. We started going in shifts instead of all at once. Then a couple years ago we started just having his grandma come to our house on Christmas Eve. It's just easier for her and us to be honest.
After dinner on Christmas Eve the kids insisted that we open the Christmas Eve boxes. I tell you what, this has to be one of the smartest traditions we have ever started. And I love watching them open them, even though they're not little anymore.
After the boxes we opened, we all sat around the kitchen table and played a game of Villainous. It wasn't really the kids' cup of tea, but my husband and I enjoyed it a lot!
Christmas Day was as uneventful as Christmas Eve this year. We hung out around the house and watched movies while the kids enjoyed their gifts.
All three of the kids got things they asked for this year, as they do every year. It was enjoyable! Watching the boys open gifts they'd been talking about for months was the high light of my day.
It was all very low key and lazy.
How was your Christmas?
