We first headed to Spoon River Drive, which is essentially a bunch of garage sales and flea markets on a long stretch of road and the surrounding towns. It's usually a good time and we've gone a few times in the past, scoring several items I still have today. As we headed out that way and got to what was usually the hub of the whole event we realized this was not as hopping as it has been in years past (most likely because everyone is broke at this point). So we switched gears.
I said how far is tanner's from here? and sure enough it was a good little drive but not awful, so we headed in that direction instead!
Of course we had to pull off to the side of the road so Wally could settle his stomach (dude gets car sick so easy).
Tanner's Orchard in Speer Illinois is a large piece of land that includes a little farm, an orchard for apple picking, pumpkins, a large area called The Back 40 where all of the children's activities are located, and of course, you don't go to Tanner's without sampling food and you're probably walking away with some of their delicious Apple Butter.
Apparently the folks who weren't at Spoon River Drive were all at Tanner's today!
We had an amazing time chasing Maggie and Walter around the farm. She went from spot to spot climbing and jumping and getting all of her wiggles out.
She was even able to ride a pony! If you know Maggie even a little, you know that this girl has been obsessed with horses since she learned what one was. She has probably 50 Schleich horses and when we go to Wild Life Prairie Park, her main focus is getting to the homestead where she can see Spiffy the miniature horse. She has never ridden a horse though and has only ever been close enough to touch one twice in her three years of life.
So when I saw the pony rides today I knew she had to do it!
It was a core memory kind of day I believe.
Walter, of course, was running around eating the grass and picking up rocks to bring home later.
He did get to experience "driving" a bulldozer though and I believe that made his day! Honestly I think he's just excited when we let him run and don't have him in the stroller the whole time.
I think it was a pretty good day! They both fell asleep on the way home.
